I make marks. Big and little. Thick and thin. Dark and light. Smooth, bumpy, square, round, curvy and straight marks. I draw inspiration from nature - people, places and things - and turn the image upside down and sideways.

Sometimes I work direclty from a model, landscape or still-life; at other times I conjure images from memory. I keep working on the surface, building layers, using color, line, shape and plance changes until the image feels mysterious, interesting and exciting.

Whatever medium I've worked in - clay, linoleum, etching, paint - I am a mark-maker. I am a founding member of The Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia, where I have been a resident artist since 1974.
